2021-06-07—The Association held a forum “Supporting new energy and promoting the standardization of new materials for steel pipes”
On the afternoon of October 15, 2021, the Association successfully held the "Supporting New Energy and Promoting the Standardization of New Materials for Steel Pipe" Forum and the Pipe Industry Standard Promotion Conference at the Shanghai Jinshuiwan Hotel. As part of the event, a launch ceremony was held for the development of two group standards: “Heat-treated flexible tubing (Coiled Tubing)” and “Seamless stainless steel pipes for pipelines of hydrogen filling stations.” In addition, a presentation of the group standard “Seamless stainless steel pipes for pipelines of hydrogen cars” was held, and two popular science reports closely related to the pipe industry were heard: “Scheme of multi-energy coupled energy supply “photovoltaics - electricity - hydrogen - methanol” during the 14th Five-Year Plan” and “Scenarios for the use of hydrogen energy”.
The event was attended by Association Chairman Gong Hongliang, Executive Chairman Li Sheng, Vice Chairman Wang Hai, General Secretary Cao Xiangjun, more than 30 representatives of Association member companies and experts from the Expert Committee. The meeting was chaired by the chairman of the expert committee, Sun Yongxi.
After the welcoming remarks by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ma'anshan Zunma Technology Co., Ltd. Zhang Dawei, Executive Deputy General Manager of Xinda Kechuang (Tangshan) Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd. Liu Xiang and Deputy Chief Engineer of the Research Center of Shanghai Shunhua New Energy System Co., Ltd. Lin Yao held a launch ceremony for the development of two group standards - "Heat-treated flexible tubing" and "Seamless stainless steel pipes for hydrogen refueling station pipelines."
Gong Hongliang, Wang Hai, Baosteel Engineering Research Fellow Dr. Zhang Zhonghua and Liu Xiang jointly launched the first draft of the standard, and Gong Hongliang, Li Sheng, Zhang Dawei and Lin Yao jointly launched the second. This marked the official start of the development process for both standards.
Heat treated flexible tubing is an innovative product independently developed by Xinda Kechuang. The product solves the problem of low weld life of high-strength steel strips and simultaneously improves the fatigue strength of the base metal. Thanks to the homogenizing treatment technology, the pipe strength reaches 160 ksi, providing good comprehensive mechanical properties and a lower average corrosion rate compared to traditional flexible pipes.
A number of the company’s products became firsts in China and the world:
1. In 2018, the first multi-channel pipe for separate water injection was successfully tested at the Jilin field;
2. In 2019, the world’s first production experiment using continuous cable tubing was successfully implemented in a gas field in Canada;
3.In July 2020, the pipe was used in the world's first equatorial research project on research vessel No. 702.
Currently, the company has already developed a corporate standard Q/TXD 08-2021 for this product. To more quickly promote innovative products to the high-tech equipment market and create new trends in the development of flexible pipes, the company, together with Baoshan Iron & Steel and the CNPC Pipe Products Institute, has begun to develop the T/SSTA group standard “Heat Treated Flexible Tubing”, which will be published through the Association’s platform.
After successfully developing and publishing the group standard "Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe for Hydrogen Vehicle Piping", Zunma Technology continued to improve the standard system for the hydrogen industry and began to develop the standard "Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe for Hydrogen Fueling Station Piping".
Seamless stainless steel pipes for hydrogen filling stations are designed for operating pressures up to 138 MPa and a temperature range of at least -60°C. Their technical parameters and technological requirements differ significantly from pipes for hydrogen cars. The new standard will fill the existing gap in the regulatory framework, provide uniform requirements for the design, production and testing of pipes and improve the operational safety of hydrogen refueling stations.
Zunma Technology, together with Shanghai Shunhua New Energy, will continue to develop the T/SSTA group standard “Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe for Hydrogen Refueling Station Pipelines.”
Deputy Chairman of the Expert Committee Zhang Yaofei presented a work plan for the development and examination of two group standards. Shanghai Steel Tube Association Notice No. 016 of 2021 “On the Publication of the Group Standard “Seamless Stainless Steel Tubes for Hydrogen Vehicle Pipelines”” was also read out.
Engineer Shi Guang from Shanghai Shenlong New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. presented a report “Scheme of multi-energy coupled energy supply “photovoltaics - electricity - hydrogen - methanol” during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.” A new member of the expert committee, senior engineer of Shunhua New Energy Gu Chengze, gave a popular scientific report “Scenarios for the use of hydrogen energy.”
Both reports clearly demonstrated that steel pipes are an indispensable functional material in both the production and application of hydrogen energy. At the same time, the requirements for their quality are much higher than in traditional energy based on fossil fuels, which aroused great interest among conference participants.
At the end of the event, the Chairman of the Association, Gong Hongliang, summed up the results of the forum.
He noted that the modern world is experiencing unprecedented changes, and the path to rejuvenation of the Chinese nation requires great efforts. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China has entered a stage of high-quality development, and intellectual property innovation has become not only the main driver of this process, but also an inevitable condition for the high-quality development of the pipe industry.
Standards, as an important component of intellectual property, along with patents and copyrights, are a powerful tool for the technological progress of enterprises and the development of the industry as a whole. At present, the pipe industry mainly uses European and American standards EN, API and others. It is necessary to change this situation and move from the status of a large importer of standards to the status of a state creating its own standards. Exports of national standards must correspond to the scale of exports of Chinese pipe products.
He also emphasized that the Association’s secretariat and expert committee should focus on quality service to member companies, jointly monitor new trends in demand for advanced pipe products and contribute to the structural restructuring of the industry, changing the development model and increasing its competitiveness.
